Question 1

What is a Boone and Crockett score?

Accepted Answer

A Boone and Crockett score is a whitetail rack's total measurement in inches under the official B&C system — inside spread, both main beams, every typical tine, and four circumferences per side — minus deductions for left-to-right asymmetry and abnormal points. The result is the net score (typical or non-typical) used to rank the animal and judge record-book eligibility, where 170" net typical makes the all-time book.

Question 2

What is the minimum Boone and Crockett score for whitetail?

Accepted Answer

For the all-time records book: 170" net typical and 195" net non-typical. For the three-year Awards book: 160" net typical and 185" net non-typical. Both require an official score taken after a 60-day drying period.

Question 3

Is the Antler Calculator B&C score official?

Accepted Answer

No. This calculator produces an accurate, by-the-rules estimate using the same measurements and formulas the official scorer uses. To enter a buck into the Boone and Crockett record book you must let the antlers dry 60 days and then have them measured by a certified B&C official measurer.

Question 4

How is Boone and Crockett score calculated?

Accepted Answer

Net typical B&C score = inside spread credit + length of each main beam + length of every typical tine (G1–G7) + four circumference measurements per side, minus deductions. Deductions are the differences between matched left/right measurements, the difference between actual and credited spread, and the length of any abnormal points.

Question 5

Does B&C accept any legal weapon?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Boone and Crockett is open to whitetails taken by rifle, muzzleloader, shotgun, archery, or crossbow, provided the hunt complied with fair-chase rules and applicable state regulations.

Question 6

What is fair chase?

Accepted Answer

Fair chase is the B&C rule that the deer was taken under conditions that did not give the hunter an improper advantage — no high-fence enclosures under a defined acreage, no taking from a vehicle, no use of electronic equipment to communicate the deer's location. Entries that fail fair chase are not eligible for the record book.

Question 7

What is a good Boone and Crockett score for a whitetail?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your bar. Any buck that nets 170" typical is a "Booner" — an all-time record-book animal, and the goal most serious whitetail hunters chase. 160" nets into the three-year Awards book. For the average hunter, a net typical over 150" is the buck of a lifetime, and a mature buck that nets 130–150" is a genuinely good deer. Below about 125", you are into solid but not record-class territory.

Question 8

What is the world record Boone and Crockett score?

Accepted Answer

The world-record typical whitetail is the Milo Hanson buck, taken in Saskatchewan in 1993, at 213-5/8" net typical. The highest-scoring non-typical whitetail ever recorded is the "Missouri Monarch," a buck found dead near St. Louis in 1981 that scored 333-7/8" non-typical. Both are extreme outliers — for reference, the all-time book minimums are 170" typical and 195" non-typical.
