Question 1

Is there a free tool to score my buck?

Accepted Answer

Yes — this is a free online deer scoring tool. Pick Boone & Crockett or Pope & Young, walk through every measurement, and it returns your gross score, deductions, and net typical score to the eighth-inch. No account, no app, and no charge to score.

Question 2

What do I need to measure to score a deer?

Accepted Answer

Inside spread, both main beams, every typical tine (G1 through G7) per side, and four circumferences (H1 through H4) per side. The tool walks you through each one with a labeled diagram, then subtracts symmetry differences, the spread-credit cap, and any abnormal points to reach your net score.

Question 3

Can I score my deer from a picture?

Accepted Answer

No — an accurate score comes from measurements, not a photo. This deer scorer runs the same measurements a certified scorer takes with a tape (spread, beams, tines, and circumferences). Estimating from a picture alone is not reliable enough for a real B&C or P&Y number.

Question 4

Is this deer scorer accurate — and is the score official?

Accepted Answer

The math is accurate: it uses the same formulas as the official rule books, including the spread-credit cap and symmetry deductions. But an online score is a green score, not an official entry. Record-book entry requires a 60-day drying period and a measurement by a certified official measurer.
